Global developer of IP infrastructure and application solutions, GENBAND, has announced the establishment of a regional sales headquarters for sub-Saharan Africa in Johannesburg.

The Texas-based company has operations in 50 countries, and Srini Moodley has been appointed at the helm of the local operations as vice president of sales for Africa.

Moodley, with over 25 years of experience in the industry, was previously the client director at Cisco SA where he led the team responsible for Telkom SA.

President of global sales at GENBAND, Pablo Gargiulo, says: “The selection of Johannesburg for our regional sales headquarters will allow us to best serve Africa's largest telecom market and the entire burgeoning region.”

“Srini's broad experience leading business development in diverse and challenging markets will prove valuable as we continue to expand our business in these fast growth African markets.

“His appointment reaffirms our commitment to this strategic region, facilitating IP communications solutions that enable reliable, advanced multimedia services for end users across sub-Saharan Africa,” says Gargiulo.

Network transformation

The local headquarters will house the regional sales team and a demonstration centre for GENBAND's range of IP communications solutions, including transformation, convergence and optimisation technologies from the company's portfolio of switching, networking and application products and services.

According to GENBAND, its local approach will be to help enable its partners to take advantage of the local loop by supplying the necessary solutions. The company says that its focus areas in SA will be broadband implementation and network transformation.

Moodley says the establishment of GENBAND in SA gives the African telecoms industry the opportunity to transition to IP communications.

“I am very pleased to join the GENBAND team in working with service providers, governments and large enterprises to transform their networks across the region,” says Moodley. “We look forward to establishing a state-of-the-art operation here in Johannesburg.”

GENBAND currently has 3 000 full-time employees and contractors, and serves more than 600 customers globally; including 80 of the world's top 100 network operators.
