Jaspersoft unveils BI toolkit

Open source business intelligence (BI) vendor, Jaspersoft is joining the ranks of companies adding support for Apple's iPad.

This is according to PC Advisor, which adds that a new software development kit for Apple's iOS operating system is a key feature of Jaspersoft's 4.2 release, which was unveiled on Tuesday.

PC World reports that with the toolkit, developers will be able to build native iPad BI software, according to a statement.

It includes a set of REST (representational state transfer) programming interfaces, Objective-C tooling and a sample native application, Jaspersoft said.

The 4.2 release also offers browser-based iPad compatibility for “users who want to deploy a mobile BI solution quickly”, but may not need the added responsiveness and power that native development can provide.

Other features include improved ad hoc reporting, which allows users to pull together and visualise data in a variety of ways.

Brian Gentile, CEO of Jaspersoft, said: “Jaspersoft is giving BI builders more freedom to choose the right mobile BI environment for their business-critical information,” writes The Sacramento Bee.

“We know the workforce wants an elegant, easy-to-use BI interface, but mobile BI is rarely a one-size-fits-all solution. Organisations have different requirements for mobile BI, so we built a toolkit for embedded solutions, and we're delivering an elegant browser-based answer for traditional IT-based solutions.”
