Introduced in 2008, the Visionary CIO Award, which will be presented by the Computer Society of SA (CSSA), in association with ITWeb, recognises an executive responsible for IT strategy in an organisation, who has demonstrated visionary leadership in using technology to grow business.

Over the next few days, the five Visionary CIO finalists - Andrew Brauer, CIO/CTO, Business Connexion; Bradley Coward, Group CIO, Sappi; Rubens da Silva, CIO, Johannesburg Water; Sandi Macfie, CIO, Southern Sun Hotels; and Mayan Mathen, CTO, Dimension Data MEA - will take part in the final judging stages.

The process began when members of the public and the CSSA were invited to nominate candidates on ITWeb's Web site. Following this, the judging panel shortlisted 10 IT Personality and 10 Visionary CIO candidates out of the received nominations.

Based on the public votes and the adjudication of the panel, five IT Personality and five Visionary CIO finalists were announced in September.

The final stage, happening next week, will see each finalist interviewed in-depth by the judges.

The winners of this year's awards will be announced at the CSSA President's Awards Breakfast, in association with ITWeb, on 10 November, at the Hilton Hotel, Sandton.

The breakfast is an ideal opportunity for industry players to demonstrate their leadership in supporting the ICT industry and the ICT profession in SA, and to network with other top achievers and ICT leaders.
