Global networks empower organisations

By Nadine Arendse
Johannesburg, 09 Sept 2011

The proliferation of global networks is making organisations more innovative, especially in the wake of skills shortages.

So says Dr Helena Barnard, associate professor at the Gordon Institute of Business Science. She says technology provides gateways of communication that empower people, especially customers, who can now be accessed globally.

“IT enables connections between firms across the globe. Resources can be obtained from anywhere, provided you know what you need. Firms are changing because of the power of global networks,” she says.

Barnard notes that while managing global networks of providers is complex, it's definitely the way of the future.

Barnard is a speaker at the ITWeb Business Process Management (BPM) Summit 2011, which takes place on 12 and 13 October, at The Forum in Bryanston. The event will provide attendees with an understanding of the new agile trends, successful change management strategies, and how to get to grips with the state of BPM.

A one-day workshop, where attendants learn to apply techniques that will improve customer service, while simultaneously reducing costs and increasing revenue, is also scheduled for the event. Workshop participants will receive certification as a Certified Process Practitioner on completion of the course.
