African tower ownership and management company, Eaton Towers, has appointed Peter Lewis as CFO, with immediate effect.

Lewis joins Eaton Towers from Millicom, the formerly Nasdaq-listed telecommunications operator that focuses on growth markets in Africa and Central and South America.

Chief executive of Eaton Towers, Alan Harper, says Lewis arrives at a time when the company has “several major deals in the pipeline”, following a recent investment in the business. “We are poised to expand our operations across sub-Saharan Africa.”

Eaton Towers operates towers in Ghana and SA, and recently established offices in Kenya and Uganda.

In September, the company secured a major round of equity funding worth $150 million from Capital International Private Equity Funds (CIPEF), a private equity investor that focuses on emerging markets. The company says this funding will be used to acquire, build and develop telecoms towers across Africa for both existing and new projects.

CIPEF joined existing Eaton Towers shareholder, African Development Partners, a private equity fund advised by Development Partners International.

The Eaton team includes chief executive Harper, formerly on the executive committee of Vodafone Group; executive director Terry Rhodes, former director of Celtel (now Bharti Airtel Africa); and Sanjiv Ahuja, formerly chief executive of Orange.
