iBurst has scrapped the expiry date on its prepaid data offerings, allowing users to access the vouchers indefinitely until the data runs out.
The National Consumer Commission (NCC) recently issued the company with a compliance notice, indicating that it was contravening Section 63 of the Consumer Protection Act (CPA). As a result, iBurst has done away with access time limitations on prepaid vouchers.
In terms of the CPA, prepaid vouchers expire either when they have been used, or three years after the date they were issued. The section applies when suppliers accept money from consumers in exchange for prepaid certificates, cards, credit, vouchers or a “similar device”.
The service provider says it is “happy to comply” with the NCC's directive. Head of products at iBurst, Zahir Kahn, says: “We decided that it was within our power to remove these limitations on both pre-threshold and post-threshold prepaid data vouchers.”
The withdrawal of access time limitations on prepaid products became effective on Wednesday.
