Aruba intros mobile-optimised POS

Aruba Networks is working with Infinite Peripherals and LightSpeed on a tablet- and smartphone-optimised point-of-sale (POS) solution that is designed to save retailers time and boost sales, TabTimes reveals.

The new solution allows retail staff to carry out sales transactions in any part of a store and combines Infinite Peripherals' Linea-Pro bar code scanner/credit card swipe reader with LightSpeed Mobile, a mobile POS solution.

This solution is backed by smartphone- and tablet-optimised WiFi network support from Aruba, using the firm's Mobile Virtual Enterprise (MOVE) architecture.

Access networks based on MOVE architecture enable policy enforcement based on device fingerprinting, application fingerprinting and location, Telecom Paper notes.

Aruba's Mobile Device Admission Control helps ensure that smartphones and tablets can be shipped directly to stores for self-provisioning by general sales staff.

Retail sales staff can use LightSpeed Mobile to connect to a LightSpeed database and process sales anywhere in the store with an iPod Touch, or beyond the store at pop-up locations, trade shows and special events, using an iPhone.

According to an Aruba survey, 56% of businesses plan to implement mobile technology systems using the iPad and 38% plan on using iPhones, Pad Gadget notes.

The big news in business-related mobile solutions is mobile POS solutions.
