DIY business intelligence empowers users

Self-service business intelligence (BI) is about more than simply installing a tool. It enables users to extract their own meaning from data - without relying on IT to make report changes.

This is according to Mark Stacey, founder of Pragmatic Works SA, who says 'self-service' is a term that's thrown around a lot in BI, yet many organisations do not understand what it really entails.

Self-service BI is the methodology of creating reusable content in order to eliminate ambiguity about important measures, while enabling and supporting users who need to share their created content with others.

Stacey further explained that this could even include adding data sources, depending on the maturity of users and governance requirements of the organisation.
