Canadian call centre announces lay-offs

A Dartmouth call centre is poised to lay off some of its employees, Daily Business Buzz reports.

On Wednesday, Cincinnati-based Convergys told workers at its Highfield Park Drive location that one of the company's clients will be closing a customer-service wing with the company.

Job losses were to occur as the unnamed major client reduced its contracted services beginning in February, and eliminated work handled at the Dartmouth location entirely by April, some workers said, Herald Business notes.

The company confirmed via e-mail on Thursday that the Dartmouth call centre was adjusting its workforce as a major client closed “segments of their customer-care programmes” supported by the site.

Convergys would not reveal the client's name. Some workers said it is a major American mobility service provider.

How many jobs will be affected is not known.
