Collaboration ensures business success

To get business buy-in for next-generation analytics, organisations need to look at case studies their organisations can relate to.

This is according to Terry White, CXO Advisor's research director, speaking at the ITWeb Business Intelligence (BI) Summit.

International BI consultant and renowned BI author Rick van der Lans agrees, saying the landscape in which organisations operate is changing, and as a result, IT faces business challenges that need to be met, yet they may not understand these.

Organisations want to make decisions and they want to make those decisions now, White said.

He added that while it's important to ensure decisions can be made quickly, there is no “big bang” approach to BI - especially when it comes to big data. The impact of the proliferation of mobile devices is clear, White said, referring to studies indicating that the majority of data that exists in the world today was created within the last two years.

Business wants no-fuss IT, but there is a lack of understanding between business and IT when addressing how to reach a solution, White said.
