MANteresting: A Pinterest for men

As Pinterest has taken off, its growth has been primarily driven by its overwhelmingly female user base. As a result, the site and its pinboards have a distinctly feminine touch.

Enter MANteresting, the newly-launched social bookmarking site with the tagline: “Interesting. Man. Things.” The instructions are simple: users are told to share “manly things” with the community and to get inspired by “awesome” content.

The site describes itself as the first social bookmarking service to specifically cater to the male population. “Last time we checked there were 3.4 billion men on Earth. It's about time.”

While the site has the same general design of Pinterest, with user-generated posts scattered across the home page and the option of searching for particular keywords, it injects a healthy dose of testosterone into the concept.

MANteresting users don't “pin” things, they “nail it”. They also don't have pinboards, but “workbenches” instead.

“It's quite simple really. Let's say you are a huge sports fan. Within your profile you can create a workbench called 'Sports', another workbench 'Things that make me laugh', and yet another 'DIY Projects'. Now, when you see a picture on the Web of your favourite quarterback, you can nail that image back to your 'Sports' workbench,” says MANteresting.

“If you ever want to find that picture in the future, you know exactly where to look. Totally helps you organise all the awesome things you see around the Web.”

Like Pinterest, MANteresting also offers a 'Nail It' bookmarklet that users can use in their browsers to easily share content to their manly workbenches. MANteresting also deems invites to be “lame” and users can sign up for the service immediately.

Other Pinterest derivatives floating around the Web include Gentlemint, Chill, UrbanTag and Pinspire (to name but a few).
