Samsung SA has announced that Craige Fleischer has been appointed head of mobile communications.

Fleischer left his position as regional director for Southern Africa at Research In Motion (RIM) in October last year to join Samsung in a business development role within office automation and consumer electronics for Africa.

Fleischer followed closely in the footsteps of RIM's former regional director, Deon Liebenberg, who is now MD of Samsung SA. Samsung says Fleischer will take up his new role in the company from the beginning of next month.

“Having worked in the local telecommunications and business retail sector for over 10 years, Craige brings a wealth of knowledge and insight into the dynamics and strategies required to ensure the mobile communications business division within Samsung SA continues to follow the global trend of becoming a market leader, and I look forward to his positive contribution to our business in reaching our core objectives,” says Liebenberg.

Fleischer says: “I am very excited to have joined this dynamic business and look forward to not only promoting our business growth and driving the brand to new and exciting heights, but also meeting consumer demands and expectations to deliver on our promise of being the best loved brand in Africa.

“Samsung, as a leader in consumer electronics in SA, has a brand and product portfolio that is growing year-on-year and this - together with the innovation the market is witnessing around its mobile products - has ensured its offering for both the consumer and business sector is very compelling and competitive, and is sure to encourage consumers to be inspired by the future direction of technology,” says Fleischer.
