The astronomical growth of social pin-boarding site Pinterest is reportedly slowing down.

In data shared with CNBC, ComScore reportedly said Pinterest's unique user growth slowed from an 85% rate between mid-January and mid-February, to a rate of 18% between mid-February and mid-March.

Pinterest was noted as the fastest-growing independent site in history to reach the 10 million user mark in January this year.

According to USA Today, ComScore's VP of industry analysis compared Pinterest's growth to that of Twitter. The micro-blogging site went from four million to 20 million users in a two-month period, before its growth rate flattened. ComScore estimates the pin-boarding site is now on just over 20 million users.

Pinterest recently updated its terms of service and privacy policy in response to growing concerns from users. The updated terms will take effect on 6 April and address the issues surrounding content ownership and copyright with easier tools for reporting copyright infringement.

Along with the updated terms, Pinterest has also redesigned its profile pages and added new functionality for finding users with similar interests.

The new social network is also expected to release its API soon for developers. Pinterest is still an invitation-only service, said to be dominated by the suburban female demographic. The site is estimated to have in the region of 1.36 million visitors a day and more referral traffic than Google+, LinkedIn and YouTube combined.
