Australian customs improves content management

The Australian Federal Department of Customs and Border Protection has awarded a A$5.1 million contract to migrate to a new enterprise content management (ECM) platform, IT News reports.

The department will phase out its use of an Open Text platform and shift to version eight of Objective's ECM platform. Objective won the deal after a public tender that commenced in early 2011.

Objective ECM 8 is widely used by public-sector organisations to gain control of the large volume of content that proliferates across all levels of government, CFO World states.

Objective ECM 8 is also being used to manage business processes and help organisations meet their compliance and legislative responsibilities.

The Objective ECM 8 system will provide, according to the company's CEO, Tony Walls, a “single source of the truth” by creating a data repository that can be accessed by any of the service's 5 000 staff, iTWire says.

Walls says the system will collect electronic content, capture day-by-day documents used by customs, and also e-mails “with record-keeping significance”.
