Joomla exceeds 30m download mark

The community supporting the popular Joomla open source content management system (CMS) reveals that it has been downloaded more than 30 million times, eWeek reports.

The CMS has begun adhering to a six-month release cycle, meaning more product enhancements being introduced more often, TechWeek Europe states.

New features in the latest version include multi-database support, one-click version updating, predefined search options and language-specific font settings.

Another key factor in the growth in use of Joomla is that a significant number of government agencies have adopted Joomla, which powers about 3 100 government agencies' Web sites, blogs and intranets.

The organisation claims that its CMS is used to power 2.7% of the Web, IT Business says.

The downloads of Joomla grew from 22 million in March 2011, and the actual number of downloads is higher than the count since the organisation started counting in 2007, and the software has been available since 2005.
