Linux Warehouse appoints new managing director

Johannesburg, 23 Apr 2012

Linux Warehouse, the premier distributor of enterprise open source software for southern Africa, today announced the appointment of its new Managing Director, Jan-Jan van der Vyver.

Van der Vyver is an engineering graduate from the University of Johannesburg, who subsequently obtained a doctorate in Computational Neuroscience (Electronic Engineering) from Eidgen"ossische Technische Hochschule, in Z"urich. He has the distinction of writing his first computer program at the age of nine; working as an engineer at Sasol Technology; and, in 2010, establishing Cosapien, a software as a service (SaaS) company that enables collaboration, specifically in relation to the social contracts that exist between individuals. Van der Vyver is also an experienced executive and life skills coach.

“One of the attractions of joining Linux Warehouse is the challenge of being able to create and put a new and appropriate strategy in place for a company that operates in a market that is growing at a phenomenal rate,” commented Van der Vyver. “Fortunately, there is already a core ERP system in place with three years' of data that allows me to better understand what has happened in the past, and will help me plan the changes that are necessary to move the company to a proactive one, from the reactive one it has been previously.

“We are the distributor for some exciting open source products that will allow organisations to better utilise the resources they already have in place, as well as offer financially-attractive and resource-efficient solutions to some of the future requirements that they have already identified,” continued Van der Vyver. “Thus, the opportunities going forward, particularly with some of the newer products we now have available, are an exciting prospect.”

Van der Vyver's non-worked related interests include extreme sports, photography and finding simple, although not simplistic, solutions to complex problems.

Linux Warehouse

Linux Warehouse was established in 2005 as a spin-off from Obsidian Systems and is the premier distributor of enterprise open source software for southern Africa. As such, it is an authorised distributor in southern Africa for Red Hat including the Jboss product; the sub-Saharan distributor for EnterpriseDB, iFax Solutions, Vyatta and Zmanda; as well as a distributor for Ingres.

Linux Warehouse is a 'pure' distributor and operates in conjunction with and through its numerous resellers. In South Africa, the majority of corporate organisations utilise some Linux enterprise software within their operations, a situation that is also mirrored on a global basis.
