McAfee takes top spot in recent Pike Pulse Research Report

McAfee scores highest in assessment of GRC for smart grid by leading cyber security vendors.

Johannesburg, 25 Apr 2012

McAfee has announced it has been recognised as a leader in governance, risk management and compliance (GRC) solutions for smart grids by a recent Pike Pulse Research Report.

According to the in-depth report, McAfee's acquisition of NitroSecurity last year earned the company the top spot against more than a dozen competitors in the industry.

With a focus on control systems innovation, McAfee was able to set itself and its capabilities apart. The acquisition of NitroSecurity allowed McAfee to further extend its security portfolio by offering security information and event management (SIEM) solutions, which are ideal for control systems environments.

The report rated each provider on 12 criteria for strategy and execution, including vision, go-to-market strategy, partners, product strategy and roadmap, technical innovation, geographic reach, market share, sales and marketing, product performance and features, product portfolio, control system focus, and staying power.

“The combination of McAfee and NitroSecurity ranked highest in this Pike Pulse Research Report, based largely on recently acquired Nitro's GRC capabilities,” said Pike Research senior analyst Bob Lockhart. “McAfee's acquisition of NitroSecurity, which had already positioned itself as a smart grid specialist, gave McAfee instant credibility in control systems markets.”

The McAfee SIEM has made significant enhancements, specifically for smart grid event management and correlation. One new feature includes an interface with OSIsoft's PI system, enabling the platform to take in and correlate a whole new universe of control network events.

“We are thrilled to be recognised as a leader in the GRC sector since bringing the NitroSecurity solutions to McAfee last year,” said Ken Levine, vice-president, Advanced Technology, McAfee. “Providing our customers with the ability to quickly identify, correlate and remediate threats, mitigating risks to information and infrastructure, is an essential function of McAfee's services.”

The “Pike Pulse Report: Smart Grid Cyber Security Governance, Risk Management, and Compliance” evaluated 14 of the leading cyber security governance, risk management and compliance vendors in the smart grid market.
