Nokia Lumia 710 hits SA

Johannesburg, 25 Apr 2012

This week, the Nokia Lumia 710 has gone on sale in SA through Vodacom and Cell C.

The Lumia 710 is the low-cost alternative to the Lumia 800. The device runs Windows 7.5, has a 5MP camera and features deep social media integration. The Lumia 710 also has a 3.7-inch capacitive touch-screen and a 1.4GHz processor, 512MB program memory and 8GB internal user memory. The handset will retail for a recommended price of R3 999.

Nokia SA GM Colin Baumgart says: “The Lumia 710 offers the same functionality as the Lumia 800 at a lower price point, and is perfect for consumers who thrive on being socially connected. This again highlights Nokia's commitment to delivering the latest smartphones with localised services to the South African market.”

Aimed at the younger market, the handset can be personalised with a white or black body design and five colourful exchangeable back covers (available in black, white, cyan, fuchsia, and yellow). Nokia also promises up to 7.6 hours of 3G talk time with the handset.

According to Nokia, the Lumia 710 offers “the best Windows Phone experience at this price point”. A key feature of the user interface is the People Hub, which combines all information from contacts across different services into an integrated view. Contacts can also be pinned to the start screen for easy access.

Other features included in the Windows 7.5 OS are Internet Explorer 9, Nokia Drive (with turn-by-turn navigation) and Nokia Music's Mix Radio (free mobile music streaming).

The flagship Nokia Windows Phone device, the Lumia 800, was released locally in January and features the same design as the widely praised Nokia N9. The higher-end device features an 8MP camera, 3.7-inch AMOLED display, 1.4GHz processor, 512MB RAM and 16GB internal memory.
