Google has added new and expanded functionality to its Google Docs service, with the introduction of 450 fonts and 60 new document templates.

Other updates during the past month have included: the integration of Google Docs in the new Google Drive cloud storage service, the addition of various image options (including searching for images in the LIFE Photo archive), improved support for screen readers, and improvements to Apps Script.

Prior to the latest update, fonts on Google Docs were limited to the standard choices of Arial, Georgia, Trebuchet, Courier, Comic Sans and Verdana. The 450 new fonts are those currently available on the Google Web Fonts page for Web designers.

The fonts are not added automatically to the font menu; users can rather select the “Add fonts” option to select one of the new fonts. Once a font has been selected, it will then appear in the font menu within Google Docs.

Details on the update can be found on the Google Docs blog.
