Cisco snaps up Truviso

Cisco Systems is buying privately held Truviso, a move designed to give businesses greater capabilities in monitoring and analysing the rapidly growing volume of data traffic that is passing over their networking infrastructures, eWeek reports.

Cisco officials on 3 May announced their intent on buying Truviso, a seven-year-old company that builds software that executives say gives customers the ability to analyse network data continuously and in real-time. Financial terms of the deal were not announced, and Cisco expects to close the deal by July.

According to Tech World, Cisco plans to integrate the Truviso team into the Cisco Network Management Technology Group. Truviso claims to be able to analyse up to 500 000 data records per second.

Cisco Prime collects network statistics to allow IT departments to get a complete picture of network traffic. Truviso analyses network traffic in real-time, allowing users to get an instant view of network use, one of the most important capabilities of the companies' software, Cisco said.

“With the growth of end-user devices and applications and in turn the proliferation of large amounts of network data, service provider and enterprise customers are looking for ways to better understand usage and differentiate their service offerings,” Tech Week Europe quotes Hilton Romanski, VP and head of corporate business development at Cisco, as saying.

“Truviso's continuous query technology allows companies to get detailed information and visibility of network use and services in real-time, with its analyse-first, store-later capability.”
