Vodacom has received accreditation for Microsoft OCS and has also been certified for Lync SIP trunking, making it the only MS accredited SIP trunking vendor in Africa.

A SIP trunk is a direct connection between a customer's voice infrastructure and Vodacom's voice over Internet protocol (VOIP) platform. It enables customers to extend VOIP telephony beyond their firewalls without an IP-PTSN gateway.

Chris Lazarus, managing executive, Vodacom Business Services, says this will allow Vodacom to enable new and existing customers to achieve call termination locally over Vodacom's VOIP platform - without having to purchase costly, complicated gateways.

MS Lync is a single, unified communications platform that integrates with MS Office as well as other existing tools and systems. It can enhance or replace existing PBX systems.

Lazarus hopes this will lead to improved productivity, increased mobility and faster responses for customers, partners and even employees.

The accreditation further provides cost savings to enterprise customers across IP and PSTN networks.
