FromA2B, an online platform that helps users plan trips using the Gautrain and Gautrain bus services, was unveiled last week.

According to founder Thorsten Grahl, the aim of the site is to make public transport accessible to infrequent travellers and to provide a central platform for public transport in Gauteng.

He says the site lets users plan trips between two addresses in Gauteng at specific times of the day. For example, conference participants who land at OR Tambo International Airport could use FromA2B to plan a trip to the University of Johannesburg, Kingsway Campus, using the Gautrain and its bus services.

According to Grahl, the site lets users determine when they will arrive at a certain point by taking train and bus schedules, as well as walking time, into account.

The site also lets users set maximum walking distances and select routes according to preferred methods of transport, for example, by bus or train only. Users can also search for the fastest route, the route with the fewest transfers, or custom routes.

Grahl says there are no current plans to introduce mobile or app versions of the site.

However, he says there are plans to introduce more transport agencies to the platform. Metrorail and the Rea Vaya bus service should be added by 12 June, he says.
