Computer Society SA (CSSA) yesterday elected a new president at its annual general meeting (AGM), in Johannesburg.
Rabelani Dagada takes over from outgoing president Adrian Schofield. “Succeeding Adrian Schofield as the CSSA president will be both a hard act to follow and humbling. The man has... an enviable track record,” says Dagada.
Dagada was vice-president of the CSSA for the past two years, and was also chapter chairman of the CSSA's Gauteng Chapter for the same period.
New exco
Also elected to the CSSA executive council at the AGM yesterday were IT operations manager at Value Logistics, Ulandi Exner, and senior manager of ICT at Umgeni Water, Bradley Sampson.
Schofield; human capital strategist at TalentAlign, Gail Sturgess; and portfolio head of global technology infrastructure at Standard Bank, Wellington Matope, were re-elected to the council.
The executive council subsequently elected its new office bearers for 2012/13, with Dagada as president and Matope as vice-president. Independent consultant Moira de Roche was also elected as vice-president. Exner is now honorary treasurer and, along with Sturgess, joined the society's board of directors. Schofield also remains on the board.
“I am certain that those of us who hold senior positions in the CSSA will ensure the success and the stability of the society,” says Dagada.
Lecturing IT
Dagada is head of ICT at the Sebata Institute of Consulting and Development and a lecturer of IT and knowledge management at Wits Business School of the University of Witwatersrand.
He was previously head of the E-learning Support and Innovation Unit, within Knowledge and Information Management at the university; and served as programme director of ICT Governance and Risk Management.
According to the Wits Business School, Dagada's qualifications are a Masters of Education in Computer-based Education and Masters of Commerce in Information Systems from the Rand Afrikaans University and the University of Witwatersrand, respectively.
He is studying for his PhD in Information Systems at the University of SA.
“Rabelani has undertaken a myriad of short courses in information technology - including Web development, telecommunications, online learning and project management. He has presented papers in national and international conferences,” Wits Business School adds.
