After more than a year under an acting CEO, JSE-listed SecureData will have a new head from Wednesday.
The security company said yesterday that Miles Crisp, a chartered accountant, has been appointed. As a result, Johan du Toit will no longer need to lead the company and will continue as FD, the group said.
Du Toit took up the role in an interim capacity towards the end of July last year, filling a void that had been open since the second week of the month, when then CEO Dean Brazier's immediate resignation was announced.
Brazier, who had headed SecureData since 31 August 2005, stepped down because he did not want to move to SA from the UK.
In the resignation statement, Brazier said: “It has become increasingly evident that the group requires a South African-based CEO to move them into the next phase of development. Although SA will always remain my family's home, we are not able to relocate from the UK at this time.”
Crisp is SecureData Africa's interim MD and has “extensive experience in the business environment” and has “been very successful in building sustainable leadership teams”, SecureData said.
Africa has been weighing on SecureData for some time, and it decided to sell SecureData Europe to settle debt and provide a cash injection to grow its African operations. In the six months to January, the group reported that SecureData Africa posted a significant loss during the second half of the previous year.
However, corrective measures started to filter through in the first half, with a reduction in the loss compared to year-end.
Crisp was previously CEO of O'Keeffe & Swartz Consulting, a member of the Deloitte & Touche South African executive committee for five years, and a founding partner of local chartered accountant firm Anderson Rochussen Crisp.
