Nimble unveils scalable big data storage

Nimble Storage is offering hybrid scale-out storage solutions that are flexible and affordable, qualities necessary requirements for enterprises that are adopting virtualisation in the data centre and trying to get their arms around big data, Tech Week Europe writes.

Other storage vendors are offering their own scale-to-fit solutions, but officials with Nimble said their strategy lets businesses more finely scale up their storage infrastructures as their needs dictate, whether those demands are around capacity, performance or both, and at low incremental costs.

Nimble is doing this through new scale-out storage arrays, new storage expansion shelves and an upgraded operating system that were unveiled on 6 August.

The company's new line of ES-Series storage expansion shelves allows enterprises to add capacity to the company's high-performance CS200 series arrays, Network Computing reveals.

Previously, customers could only buy additional arrays to expand capacity. The company also released a new line of extreme-performance CS400 arrays, which offers higher CPU performance.

Customers can expect two to three times the rate of performance on the CS400 series compared with its predecessor, the company says.

Nimble has also upgraded its software to support clustering, which wasn't available with the CS200 series arrays.
