SA heads to e-sports championships

Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) has chosen the team to represent SA at the International e-Sports Federation (IeSF) World Championships, in South Korea.

The Championships, which will feature the best gamers in the world, will be held in Cheon-an City, South Korea, from 2 to 6 October.

To select a final team of four, MSSA held provincial and national LAN championships. These championships produced 26 qualifiers from nine clubs. The qualifiers then did battle in the National Team Trials, on 1 September, for a spot in the team.

Following deliberations, the MSSA's selection committee selected its final candidates and the team was approved by the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) on 20 September.

Gigabyte will sponsor the team, which will feature thefirst-ever female gamers to represent SA at the IeSF World Championships.

The team, which departs on 1 October, includes Robert 'PandaTank' Botha; Gabriela 'Gabybear' Isaacs; Lyrene 'Legato' K"une and Vittorio 'HotShot' Puissa.
