Software AG today unveiled a major update to its webMethods product suite, at its ProcessWorld event, in the USA. Extending its fully independent integration layer, webMethods 9.0 focuses on uniting the management of big data from any source, with automated business processes and applications deployed in the cloud, on mobile devices or in-house.

By combining in-memory, cloud, mobile and social technologies, webMethods 9.0 allows customers to have micro-second access to huge amounts of data, distributing the relevant information to any device and providing the required level of business responsiveness to successfully react to new business opportunities.

"The efficient management of big data offers unprecedented business opportunities to enterprises that react fast enough to take advantage of them," said Karl-Heinz Streibich, CEO of Software AG. "With webMethods 9.0, Software AG has taken a major step in enabling enterprises gain a real competitive advantage and fully address these opportunities."

Addressing big data with in-memory technology

webMethods 9.0 is now tightly integrated with Terracotta, a leading in-memory technology for enterprise big data. Terracotta, with over one million deployments and used by over two million developers, brings unsurpassed scalability to webMethods customers. webMethods 9.0 now enables local or distributed data caching providing higher performance and fault tolerance. webMethods 9.0 can also process very large XML documents directly in-memory, increasing performance and reducing programming complexity.

"People want the real-time access that in-memory solutions can provide. Business data is growing at an incredible rate, and organisations across all countries and industries have to face the challenge of scaling up their data infrastructure to meet this new pressure," said Nathaniel Rowe, research analyst, Aberdeen Group. "Aberdeen's research into big data has shown that organisations with in-memory computing were not only able to analyse larger amounts of data in less time than their competitors - they were literally orders of magnitude faster."

Integrating cloud applications with any IT infrastructure

Delivering on Software AG's cloud strategy of being the leader in solutions that allow the mix and match of on-premise and cloud applications, webMethods CloudStreams is a new product that allows customers to easily and efficiently integrate SaaS applications such as Salesforce.com with other on-premise and other SaaS applications, and govern their integration. With webMethods Command Central, also a new product, customers can now provision and control functionality to streamline deployment options in hybrid cloud environments.

"Our collaboration with webMethods and Software AG has helped provide the right tools and expertise to help us transform our business processes, not only increasing productivity and efficiency, but also increasing our opportunities for innovation," said Jag Ramaswamy, Senior Manager, Global Enterprise Integration at Coca-Cola Refreshments.

Mission-critical mobile applications

The new webMethods Mobile Suite provides a high level of security for interactive mobile applications. Organisations can quickly build and distribute mobile applications, allowing only authorised users and devices on their networks and preventing malicious threats. Employees, customers and trading partners can now interact with the enterprises' IT systems from anywhere in a secure distributed environment.

Social collaboration - fast reactions to business needs

Social collaboration is emerging in response to the need to react faster to changing business circumstances. It has dramatically changed the way people connect, communicate and collaborate with peers, and is impacting the way companies improve their business performance. The new webMethods Pulse brings real-time information and event streams to the right stakeholders, enabling collaborative actions and responses. This is done instantly, independent of location or preferred device.

"Avnet found the right integration suite - and the right partner. Software AG has proven to be a visionary when it comes to innovation, to consistently standing behind its products and to supporting Avnet's mission-critical business at a moment's notice. By enabling a paradigm shift in the way Avnet's IT performs integration, Software AG has enabled IT to bring greater value to the business through its integration suite, faster," said Ayman Taha, Director - Enterprise Solutions Integration, Avnet.
