Proposed acquisition of Business Objects is good news

Asyst Intelligence - a focused provider of business intelligence (BI) solutions and Business Objects value-added reseller to small, medium and large enterprises in South Africa - has hailed the recent announcement of German software maker SAP`s proposed acquisition of French BI software company, Business Objects, as very good news for SAP, Business Objects, their partners and users.

"SAP and Business Objects are a powerful combination and we believe that together, they will offer a premium suite of high-value business process and enterprise information management solutions that will be unrivalled in the industry," says Asyst Intelligence Managing Director, Paul Morgan.

He continues: "The deal cements SAP`s BI strategy and the solutions and expertise from Business Objects complement and strengthen SAP`s existing offering for business users.

"For SAP customers who use Business Objects, the joining of these two forces should mean increased integration between the two, which will make it even easier to retrieve useful intelligence from SAP systems and thus strengthen their decision-making processes."

"For SAP customers who are looking to invest in BI tools, the fact that Business Objects` BI solutions now form part of SAP`s approved suite of products, could make Business Objects the default choice. In essence, with the SAP stamp of approval and Business Objects` tight integration with SAP, it will be easier for them to see and realise the benefits of BI.

"At the same time, non-SAP customers will still benefit from Business Objects` dedication to retrieving information regardless of operating system, application or database, coupled with SAP`s commitment to R&D and marketing."

According to Morgan, the relationship between the German software giant and the French BI vendor has always been very strong, with Business Objects receiving no less than 15 Netweaver certifications from SAP - the most by any other BI vendor. A number of Business Objects` tools, such as BO Data Integrator, were also originally built specifically for SAP.

"It`s a venture that certainly makes a great deal of sense," adds Morgan.

He concludes, saying the acquisition of Business Objects by SAP will aid Asyst Intelligence`s existing strategy of targeting SAP customers who don`t yet have Business Objects or are battling to integrate their existing BI tools. Asyst Intelligence has experience in assisting SAP customers to derive full value from their SAP systems.

"We are confident that SAP`s backing will boost customer confidence in the brand and drive awareness of Business Objects` BI capabilities among South African businesses."
