EMC has announced new products and solutions in its Information Intelligence Group (IIG) portfolio, including EMC Documentum Platform 7.0, Documentum xCP 2.0 and Captiva 7.0.

Rick Devenuti, president of the IIG group at EMC, said during his keynote address, at the Momentum 2012 conference, in Vienna, that the new products "mark a new era of innovation for the company and constitute the largest simultaneous release in the history of its enterprise content management platform, Documentum".

"Documentum 7.0 is completely new," said Devenuti, adding that, together with the new EMC xCelerated Management System, it allows for the use of blueprints for single-click implementation. It also features optimised search with xPlore, new content and process analytics, and security features.

On top of the new Documentum, xCP 2.0 has also been revamped with a new user experience, optimised for big data and analytics.

Captiva 7.0, the system that transforms paper documents and other content into digital data to be used by enterprise applications, has also received an update with an integrated interface and 20% improved accuracy. "Captiva 7.0 does a better job of capturing data from documents and putting it to work," said Devenuti. "We realise our customers don't control all the documents that come in, so auto capture and accuracy are extremely important."

Governance in motion

Document Sciences 4.5 allows for a message to be designed once and delivered over multiple channels, based on the preferences of the recipient. This solution is integrated natively with Microsoft Word.

Documentum Information Rights Management 5.1 now also makes protected information available beyond the firewall, while maintaining the necessary security controls.

SourceOne Kazeon 4.7 enables organisations to identify, assess, classify and manage content dispersed throughout the enterprise. The technology simplifies the way legal teams, compliance and IT teams identify, collect and preserve critical information.

Finally, EMC also announced the Syncplicity Connector for Documentum, which allows organisations to automate the distribution of content from Documentum to users across all their devices.

Analytical Age

Also speaking at the Momentum 2012 conference, EMC's president for EMEA, Adrian McDonald, said the pace of change in society and IT is quicker than it has ever been.

"In 2000, the world generated two exabytes of new information. Last year, we generated more than that in one day."

According to McDonald, the world is moving from the Information Age to the Analytical Age. "It's going to be about taking all the numbers and data, and transforming it to provide a degree of agility that enterprise has not had before. Big data will be as big, if not bigger, than the virtualisation market."
