After investigating reports of Windows Phone 8 devices spontaneously rebooting, Microsoft believes it has found the cause and will release a fix in December.

The flagship Windows 8 devices from Nokia and HTC hit the shelves early this month, and users soon took to online forums to report what appeared to be widespread bugs. One of the most common complaints among both HTC Windows Phone 8X and Nokia Lumia 920 users was that their devices were spontaneously rebooting multiple times.

After promising to investigate the problem, Microsoft has now issued a statement saying: "We're continuing to investigate some reports of phones rebooting and have identified a cause with our partners. We are working to get an over-the-air update out in December."

The company has not offered any further information as to what the cause is, or how widespread the problem is.

When some users took to Twitter to complain about the spontaneous rebooting, the official Windows Phone Support account responded by asking if those users had installed the Skype for Windows Phone preview application, indicating the app may be the culprit. This remains unconfirmed.

Apart from the rebooting issue, some new Windows Phone 8 users have also complained about other problems, including freezing and syncing errors.
