iPhone 5 comes to SA

Apple today said its iPhone 5 smartphone will be available in 50 additional countries this month, including SA, where it will debut on 14 December.

The company says the handset will go on sale inSouth Koreaon 7 December, and a week later will hit other markets that also include Brazil, Russia and Taiwan.

Apple says its latest smartphone 5 is the thinnest and lightest iPhone to date, redesigned to feature a new four-inch Retina display; and an Apple-designed A6 chip for fast performance.

The iPhone 5 is currently available in 47 countries around the world including the US, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan and the UK.

According to Apple, the iPhone 5 comes in either black and slate or white and silver for a suggested retail price of $199, for the 16GB model, $299, for the 32GB model, and $399, for the 64GB model.

Local prices have yet to be released.
