A broken link between BlackBerry and Vodacom, originating in Europe, has left scores of local customers without any BlackBerry Internet Services (BIS) since about 10am this morning.

Twitter has been flooded with the irate rants of Vodacom BlackBerry customers as they are unable to access data services, including popular instant messaging platforms BlackBerry Messenger and WhatsApp, Internet browsing and e-mail.

Vodacom spokesperson Richard Boorman has confirmed there is a problem with the Vodacom/BlackBerry connection in SA, which originates overseas. "A BlackBerry connectivity issue in Europe is affecting services in SA."

Boorman says engineers are working on the problem and he would update ITWeb should there be any developments or further information.

Meanwhile, customers on Twitter are calling on Vodacom to communicate with them as to what is going on.
