HP's new offerings allow organisations to gain actionable security intelligence from big data, enabling them to better detect and prevent threats.

HP has integrated the security information and event management (SIEM) capabilities of HP ArcSight with the HP Autonomy IDOL content analytics engine. The integration means organisations can automatically apply sentiment analysis and event information to their big data and security event platforms, gaining real-time visibility into the internal and external threat landscapes.

"Many organisations have not been able to access the critical information they need to combat potential threats," said Lorna Hardie, enterprise security product sales manager for HP SA.

"This combination automatically recognises the context, concepts, sentiments and usage patterns related to how users interact with all forms of data," says HP, adding that the solution gives meaning to raw data, broadening an organisation's security monitoring capabilities.

"By enabling the tracking and analysis of human sentiment associated with data - such as behaviour patterns - organisations are better equipped to quickly identify threats that would have previously gone unnoticed," HP adds.

The new HP ArcSight Cloud Connector Framework allows organisations to collect application, event and log data from cloud service providers and is based on industry-standard protocols, providing real-time views into user activity, says HP.

Leveraging Hadoop for security analysis

According to HP, its new ArcSight/Hadoop Integration Utility integrates HP ArcSight 6.0c with Apache Hadoop, speeding up the process of digging through big data stores. "The solution links HP ArcSight's reporting, search and correlation capabilities with Hadoop's large, centralised storage repository, giving organisations the storage capacity needed to handle petabytes of information," says HP.

"With the integration of cloud monitoring, content analytics and big data processing, HP provides clients with the context needed to effectively stop potential breaches," Hardie concludes.
