As of 7 May, MultiChoice's DStv Lite package will be renamed DStv Access and two new channels will be added.

MultiChoice said today that the rebranded R99 package will see the introduction of two new channels - M-Net Movies Zone and Mzansi Wethu - which will give DStv Access customers movies without advertisement breaks for the first time, as well as more local content.

Over the last few months, DStv added a number of channels on the R99 package, including Dumisa, Blackbelt TV, Mzansi Music and kykNET Musiek. Last year it also added two community channels.

MultiChoice CEO Collins Khumalo says the company aims to bring relevant entertainment on its different packages. "For the first time, customers on our lower packages will be able to watch movies without ad breaks and access local content that reflects SA today."

MultiChoice says M-Net Movie Zone (channel 139) will feature a variety of content, with a variety of genres, while Mzansi Wethu (channel 163) is a local general entertainment channel that builds on M-Net's Mzansi Magic brand and is targeted at black South Africans who haven't had access to pay television before. "More than 50% of the programming on channel 163 on this channel will be in vernacular languages."

M-Net Movie Zone will launch at 1pm on 7 May and Mzansi Wethu will kick off at 6pm on the same day.

Customers on the DStv Family, DStv Compact and DStv Premium packages will also receive these two new channels.
