The second annual Microsoft Security Development Conference kicked off in San Francisco on Tuesday.

Running from 14 to 15 May, the event aims to bring together some of the top information security practitioners from a variety of industries, and will teach delegates about proven security development practices through keynotes, sessions and interactions with peers.

According to Microsoft, the growing importance of technology and the evolving threat landscape have led to increased regulatory compliance. In addition, trends such as cloud computing and mobile have resulted in user data becoming increasingly dependent on the security of technology.

"The amount and types of data available for collection, analysis and dissemination have increased the importance of reducing the risk associated with protecting data," the company adds.

The different tracks will cover the latest security development techniques and processes to better equip companies to defend themselves against increasingly sophisticated threats. Sessions will be divided into three categories: engineering for secure data, security development life cycle and data security, and business risk and data.
