Xerox's new production printer helps customers bring in more jobs

Johannesburg, 22 May 2013

Transactional colour variable-print volumes are expected to achieve unprecedented growth at an annual rate of 25% between 2011 and 2016, according to worldwide document technology strategy and consulting firm, InfoTrends.

Print service providers can capture more variable-data print jobs with the new Xerox Colour 8250 Production Printer - an economical choice that is versatile enough to meet the demanding needs of this marketplace.

"The 8250 follows a long line of transactional devices that have established Xerox as the leader in the variable-print segment," says Paul Haglich, product marketing manager at Bytes Document Solutions. "The 8250 has the potential to fill the gap between the ultra-high volume ink jet presses where minimum print volumes of 10 million plus images per month are required to justify the size of investment, and the one to two million images per month volume band, which is more common in the South African market."

The system is targeted for 800 000 to four million impressions per month and will deliver variable, vibrant colour. It eliminates the need for pre-printed offset shells - allowing print service providers to offer the additional value of one-pass colour on statements and direct mail pieces.

"The printer fills a sweet spot in our production mix while complementing our Xerox Nuvera and iGen presses," says Alan Olivero, president of Matrix Imaging Systems, one of the first customers to buy an 8250.

Additional features include:

* A full complement of workflow offerings supported by the Xerox FreeFlow Print Server, delivering seamless integration into any print environment. The print server is also equipped with IPDS, PDF, PCL and PS licences, and supports LCDS data streams through Xerox FreeFlow VI DesignPro, Lytrod Proform Designer and Solimar PrintDirector Enterprise.
* Automated features move more jobs through production faster, including an optional roll feeder and a variety of inline finishing options.
* Patented technology called Auto Density Control detects streaks in output before they occur and fixes them without operator intervention - ensuring consistent image density across the page.
* Inline Spectrophotometer allows for Pantone matching and more accurate, repeatable colour.

The introduction of the 8250 comes on the heels of Xerox's acquisition of Impika, a leader in the design, production and sale of production inkjet printing solutions used for industrial, commercial, security, label and package printing, representing another example of the company's commitment to ensure customers have technology choices that enable them to compete in the transactional marketplace.

To help make the most of their technology investments, Xerox offers customers the largest collection of business development tools and services in the industry. In South Africa, Bytes Document Solutions offers the services of XL Business Development to help customers grow their digital businesses.

The Xerox Color 8250 Production Printer is available immediately in the US, and will be launched in phases worldwide, from 1 July 2013. Launch is subject to anticipated market demand and local economic factors in various countries.
