Boom for Red Hat training as Obsidian partners with CTU

Johannesburg, 04 Jun 2013

South Africa's leading provider of open source solutions and training services, Obsidian, has entered into a strategic partnership with CTU Training Solutions that is expected to accelerate Red Hat certification in the country.

This new partnership is expected to deliver benefits to both organisations, as well as the market, as CTU's national footprint provides immediate access to markets Obsidian previously did not service directly, while CTU gains access to some of the country's leading Red Hat trainers.

Obsidian has offered training, specifically in the Red Hat open source systems, since 1999 to become the premier destination for industry professionals wanting to improve their skills and credentials. Obsidian is the only training provider with the staff and skills to offer Red Hat certification all the way from Administrator to Architect level.

"We are entering an exciting new era through this agreement that we believe will add significant value to the Red Hat and open source community," said Muggie van Staden, MD of Obsidian. "We realised that we can't be everywhere, so tying up with CTU was a logical solution. The benefit to them is that they now have access to two of the country's four Red Hat Certified System Architects, providing a new-found depth to the skills they can impart."

CTU Training Solutions is a leading skills development and training provider that focuses on the ICT industry. The company is South Africa's largest Microsoft Gold Learning partner, is recognised as a top Cisco Learning Partner Associate, and is registered with the MICT Seta for numerous learnerships and skills programmes.

CTU has an extensive physical presence across South Africa, with seven campuses in Gauteng, three in the Western Cape, two in Polokwane and one each in KwaZulu-Natal, Mplumalanga, North West, Eastern Cape and Free State.

"We believe that this provides the best solution to both companies, while our customers will benefit from being able to choose their training location," said Van Staden. "This in itself is expected to deliver cost savings, as trainees will spend less time out of the office and won't be incurring the travel and accommodation costs previously associated with coming to Johannesburg for the courses."
