Gijima's former CFO, Carlos Ferreira, is not rushing into a new job.

Gijima says CFO Carlos Ferreira has stepped down and Liesl Tweedie has been appointed as acting CFO following his resignation on Monday.

Ferreira's move follows a recapitalisation of the company after it issued shares to raise R180 million. He says he has been at Gijima for a long time and, after about eight years, and once the business had been recapitalised, the time was right to move on.

Ferreira says he is currently not in the office as it is not healthy for the company for a top-level staff member to stay on after a resignation. However, he will serve out his notice period and is available for a handover, he adds.

"An acting CFO has been appointed in order to facilitate the process of advertising and interviewing an appropriate candidate to fill the position permanently," says Gijima.

The departure follows the resignation last September of Jonas Bogoshi, after five years with the company as CEO.

Ferreira says he is leaving Gijima on a solid footing and is not heading to another job straight away.

Gijima has gone through a deep restructuring of its operations as part of its Vision 2025 plan, which it initiated in early 2011, in a bid to become more competitive. Bogoshi was replaced by acting CEO Eileen Wilton.

Tweedie, who is a CA(SA), completed her articles at KPMG and has worked at ABB for 17 years, of which the last five was in the position of country controller and deputy CFO. She joins Gijima on Thursday.

"The board has full trust and confidence in Tweedie's ability and remains positive about the outlook of the company," Gijima says.
