Neotel is able to get better speeds by using fixed wireless deployment, says CEO of the company, Sunil Joshi.

Neotel's broadband service NeoBroadband is now available over the operator's new generation long-term evolution (LTE) network.

NeoBroadband powered by LTE is a fixed wireless solution designed for and aimed at the business market. The solution uses a fixed installation to connect business offices via Neotel's LTE network, deployed in the coveted 1 800 MHz band.

Neotel CEO Sunil Joshi says "The new LTE product brings business grade speed for the small and medium sized, as well as large, businesses." The product is unshaped and uncapped. "By using fixed wireless deployment Neotel can optimise the number of connections to each tower thereby delivering better speeds, consistent user experience and minimal disruptions," says Joshi.

Initially NeoBroadband over LTE will initially only be available in Gauteng, in download speeds of 2Mbps, 5Mbps and 10Mbps on an unshaped, uncapped package ranging from R999 to R2 899 per month. Neotel says, as the operator expands its network footprint it will offer additional packages as well as gradually make the service available in other regions.

"Neotel is now uniquely positioned to offer a wide range of broadband services ranging from 1 Mbps up to 100 Mbps using different access technologies such as fibre, WiMax and now LTE."

Joshi says the company has invested about R500 million in capex over the last financial year, to the end of March. He says the investment went towards expanding Neotel's fibre-optic networks .

Neotel has access to over 15 000km of national long distance fibre and 8 000km in metropolitan areas, which is seamlessly connected to the five undersea cables that connect SA to Africa and other geographies.
