The HP Enterprise Group includes the enterprise storage, servers and networking range of solutions and products, and offers an organisation exactly what it needs to meet the demands of big data. And this is one trend that cannot be ignored, especially since it is part of a global movement towards offshoring big data, some of it to South Africa.
"To understand why the HP Enterprise Group's solutions are the right implementation for big data, you need to know exactly what the latter is and what it means for South Africa," says Greg Pothitos, general manager for the HP Enterprise Group at Tarsus Technologies.
"The modern business world is producing data at a staggering rate, with more and more information being produced every day. And using this data effectively, and storing it securely, is key to driving corporate growth and seeing a marked impact on the bottom line."
At the Techonomy conference in 2010, Google's CEO, Eric Schmidt, famously said that, every two days, the world creates around five exabytes of data, which he says is as much data as was created from the beginning of time until 2003. And it is generated every two days. So the question is, why is this data important and why is a trend towards offshoring this data to South Africa so relevant to the channel?
At a recent Gartner symposium in Cape Town, Partha Iyengar, an analyst for the firm, stated that he expects South Africa to become a strong contender for offshoring over the next few years. The infrastructure and workforce place the country in a good position for international businesses and, as big data volumes exceed corporate capability, it will become an increasingly attractive prospect for many.
"Organisations don't have the infrastructure in place to take the volume of data being produced and analyse it correctly so that it can be used effectively to drive the business," says Pothitos. "So what we are seeing is a move towards offshoring this capability to South Africa, and the HP range of enterprise solutions are pretty much spot-on for managing these environments."
The HP Enterprise Group's portfolio offers the building blocks for data centres to be built to the right specifications for the demands of big data. Businesses can work more efficiently and can adapt as they grow to keep up with the influx of big data.
The channel has been handed the keys to the big data kingdom and they can open the door to any solution or infrastructure.
"One of the biggest challenges facing many organisations in terms of working with big data is the efficient and accurate analysis of this information so it can be disseminated across the business effectively," says Pothitos. "The HP Enterprise Group's portfolio is a good solution for any organisation that wants to step up and take on the big data loads offered by the rest of the world, and the channel is uniquely positioned to help this goal become a reality."
