Tender Watch

Johannesburg, 25 Oct 2013

Get comfortable, because this week's edition of the National Tender Bulletin is packed with new opportunities for the ICT industry to feast on.

The State IT Agency (SITA) returns to the deal table with a bang, posting no less than nine new requests, three closing date extensions and only two tender cancellations. That said, the organisation appears to have got its tender numbering system muddled. ITWebwill post any updates or corrections as they appear in the national bulletin, but would strongly suggest details be confirmed with SITA before submitting bids. Other adverts worth looking out for include the commissioning of a high-performance computing facility for the South African Weather Service; the Nelson Mandela Museum's invitation to participate in an extensive ICT upgrade at its Bhunga site; and the Western Cape's Department of Economic Development and Tourism search for a project manager to develop a broadband index for the province, over a three-year term.

Meanwhile, the South African Local Government Association (Salga) is taking advantage of its escape from National Treasury's directive requiring mandatory use of the long-awaited Integrated Financial Management System (IFMS) in national and provincial departments. Although an IFMS version targeting the needs of local government was envisioned, Salga is considering commissioning its own Human Resource Information Management System.

Finally, keep an eye on developments in KwaZulu-Natal. The Provincial Treasury has awarded a R30 million tender to Adapt IT to develop and implement a procurement system to be used by all departments in the province, despite most procurement functions expected to be included in IFMS. What's more, the province is now advertising for the automation of the forensic investigation process. If successful, this could be extended throughout government in support of finance minister Pravin Gordhan's drive to identify and cut out corruption in the public sector.
