MWeb has introduced its first mobile data deals, available thanks to an agreement with Cell C.

MWeb has unveiled a variety of mobile data offers following news earlier this week that the Internet service provider (ISP) had entered an agreement with Cell C that enables it to offer its own customised mobile data packages to its customers.

Carolyn Holgate, GM of MWeb Connect, says - to celebrate its entry into the mobile data market - the ISP is offering what it has dubbed "Real Deal" offers which are available as of today, with no SIM or connection fees and a choice of month-to-month or 12-month contract.

MWeb's launch deals include one that includes a free modem dongle for the first 1 000 customers: 2GB of data at R89 per month on a 12 month contract.

"MWeb is also bringing an exclusive launch offer to existing customers that sign up for 2GB of data for only R79 per month on a month-to-month basis."

Holgate says the ISP's move to partner with a mobile operator was a natural one for the company, considering the high demand for mobile data offerings in the market.

The said offers are available until the end of January next year.

The ISP signed an access point name (APN) agreement to offer its own customised mobile data packages to its customers. An APN is the gateway between a GPRS, 3G or 4G mobile network and another computer network.

MWeb CEO Derek Hershaw says the company has seen continued positive growth within the mobile data market, compared to fixed-line market growth over the last few years. While the ISP has been reselling 3G services for a while now, the inter-network agreement with Cell C allows MWeb to create its own 3G products and bundles according to customer demand.

MWeb says its customers will now get first line support, competitive pricing, month-to-month contracts and no SIM card and connection fees.
