Former Vodacom executive Enzo Scarcella has been appointed as Telkom’s new chief marketing officer and will effectively join the company at the end of January.
Telkom CEO Sipho Maseko says the latest appointment is part of the company’s efforts to renew its top leadership team. “In the near future we will have a capable and dedicated team in place to plan and guide Telkom’s transformation.”
Maseko says Telkom has set itself a number of goals in an attempt to bolster the company, including investing in and repositioning the brand, improving Telkom’s public profile, understanding customer needs and responding to changing customer behaviours. “At the same time we have to further strengthen our marketing effort,” he says.
Telkom says Scarcella will be responsible for spearheading the marketing and other initiatives.
Scarcella previously spent five years in the US, where he completed his education, graduating with a BA Hons from Harvard University. He also has a diploma in marketing from the Kellogg School of Business in Chicago.Over the last 18 years Scarcella has managed some of SA’s top brands, including Castle Lager, M-Net and Edgars. For the past five years he has directed the Vodacom brand, including the brand’s migration from blue to red, as managing executive of marketing.
He was also nominated marketing personality of the year by the Sunday Times.
Scarcella says he has watched the changes Telkom has been undergoing over the past few months with keen interest. “I look forward to now being a part of the company’s transformation journey. I am committed to bringing out the best [the Telkom brand] has to offer.”
