Sanral has rejected "damning" information Outa says leaked from an e-toll insider.

The SA National Roads Agency (Sanral) has rejected allegations stemming from an anonymous informant, which prompted the Opposition to Urban Tolling Alliance (Outa) to lodge a subsidiary complaint with the public protector at the weekend.

Outa said on Sunday it had lodged a subsidiary complaint with public protector Thuli Madonsela around "damning information" it had garnered from a source inside the e-toll system.

According to the source, said Outa, Sanral was guilty of "abuse of power, dishonesty, maladministration and systemic problems in the risk assessment and management process within Sanral, dating back to the tender process and commencement of contractual negotiations with Kapsch TrafficCom, in 2007 and 2008".

This morning, Sanral said it had not yet been contacted by Madonsela, but it would co-operate should her office conduct an investigation. "We reject the allegations made by the so-called informant."

Outa's latest public protector application comes after the alliance lodged an initial complaint with Madonsela in January, over e-toll billing problems and complaints.

At the time, Sanral defended its e-toll billing process, saying people who had received a "huge e-toll bill" had failed to comply with the timeframes stipulated in the enforcement of e-toll violations.

The public protector's office has confirmed receipt of Outa's complaint and will assess the contents before taking a decision on whether it will be investigated, rejected or referred.
