Novartis saves with 3Com NBX solution

Johannesburg, 27 Jan 2004

Leading healthcare company, Novartis South Africa has seen significant cost savings since implementing a SuperStack 3 NBX networked telephony solution from 3Com SA. Novartis is now able to effectively drive down the costs associated with maintaining and managing its telephony system.

"We`ve experienced huge cost savings and simplified management since implementing the solution. In fact, we achieved a return on investment in only eight months and have since then experienced ongoing savings," says Rashied Davids, head of IT at Novartis South Africa.

3Com`s NBX solution offers a call-processing feature set coupled with a suite of telephony applications that adheres to the demands of Novartis` 500 users.

Commenting on the background of the implementation, Davids explains that Novartis purchased a Plessey ISDX PBX approximately five years ago.

"However, we soon outgrew the system capabilities and found that the management software and maintenance changes were enormous. Taking this into consideration we decided to replace the Plessey system with a new technology that would address future business needs as well as provide quick and effective internal telephony technical support and maintenance.

"3Com SA offered us local (third level) and beyond support and a solution that was competitively priced plus featured functionality such as voice over IP (VOIP), simplified management as well as ease of IT maintenance."

Says Maurizio Zussa, business development manager at 3Com SA: "Novartis required a solution that could integrate easily with other applications, enable prompt and efficient in-house support, ease-of-use as well as enhanced customer focus."

It took approximately one week to install and change over to the 3Com NBX system.

Concludes Davids: "We`re very happy with the installation and will definitely partner with 3Com again. The company offers excellent service and its staff are professional and efficient."
