Fujitsu Siemens Computers signs OEM agreement with Red Hat

Johannesburg, 08 Jan 2004

Fujitsu Siemens Computers will extend its partnership with US-based Linux and open source technology provider Red Hat into sales. This gives the leading European computer company the ability to offer its customers all Red Hat products directly, and thus act as a single source supplier. Fujitsu Siemens Computers is now a Red Hat Premier Partner.

The agreement enables Fujitsu Siemens Computers to offer Enterprise Linux products from Red Hat, including ES (Entry Server), AS (Advanced Server) and WS (Workstation). Previously, users of Fujitsu Siemens Computers hardware were only able to obtain these applications indirectly through Red Hat itself or its distributors. Now, the user can obtain everything from a single provider, be it hardware, operating systems and middleware or pre-configured, ready-to-run infrastructure solutions.

The arrangement also includes product-related service offerings, whereby Fujitsu Siemens Computers provides a full range of backing for Red Hat`s Linux Enterprise solutions, including 1st, 2nd and 3rd-level support. This comprises professional high-performance service packages for consulting (deploying and operating Linux in existing infrastructures), implementation (operating systems and complete solutions) and operational support.

The entire Linux product range from Red Hat runs primarily on the Fujitsu Siemens Computers` Intel-based PRIMERGY servers, as well as the CELSIUS workstation range and Linux cluster systems from its high-performance computing line (hpcLine) for technical and scientific applications. PRIMERGY servers, including the BX300 blade server, have been fully certified for the Red Hat solutions for some time.

"Linux is one of our company`s strategic operating systems, just like Microsoft Windows, Solaris and our mainframe operating system BS2000/OSD," explained Sean Wainer, Enterprise Products Manager at Fujitsu Siemens Computers. "This new agreement with Red Hat is therefore another key step for us towards providing a complete Linux offering ranging all the way from consulting and installation to professional support."

Alex Pinchex, President of International Operations at Red Hat, also sees the agreement as a milestone in further expanding his company`s European operations. "At Red Hat, we are systematically developing our business with Enterprise Linux. Finalising this OEM deal brings us even closer to Fujitsu Siemens Computers, further cementing our many years of successful cooperation. Our customers will benefit from the integrated offering that Fujitsu Siemens Computers can provide with Red Hat Enterprise Linux in combination with its high-performance PRIMERGY servers."
