nVisionIT scoops Microsoft .NET Solution of the Year Award again

Johannesburg, 22 Oct 2003

nVisionIT, the Johannesburg-based software development house whose enterprise solutions are based on the Microsoft platform, has won Microsoft`s .NET Solution of the Year Award for the second year running.

The award, announced at the recent Microsoft Africa Partner Summit in Sun City, was in recognition of the risk management solution developed for Alexander Forbes Risk Services.

"The name nVisionIT is synonymous with leading-edge development in the South African market," said Gordon Frazer, Managing Director at Microsoft South Africa, at the awards ceremony.

"The company has been at the forefront of many strategic projects. They have gone into previously non-Microsoft accounts and succeeded in turning them with solutions that have excelled in delivering customer satisfaction. They have been instrumental in the adoption of .NET at Alexander Forbes, Sasfin, Afrox Healthcare, the Development Bank of SA, Investec and World Bank," said Frazer.

Since its formation in 2000, nVision IT has quickly established itself as a development house at the forefront of delivering innovative solutions on the Microsoft platform.

In addition to winning last year`s .NET Solution of the Year award for the development of a solution for Afrox Healthcare solution using Microsoft Biztalk server, XML, Web Services and C# technologies, nVisionIT also received international recognition for the products and solutions it delivered, including being awarded third place globally for solutions leveraging Office XP and Microsoft Great Plains in 2002.

"This year`s award was for a particularly complex project which will see Africa`s largest risk management company consolidate its many legacy systems into a single Microsoft environment to enable it to respond quicker to changing business conditions and maximise business opportunities," said Graham van Zijl, managing director, nVisionIT.

"It`s a real tribute to the development team that worked on the project. It`s our people that have the high level of skills and commitment needed to operate successfully in this environment. The award is a tremendous acknowledgement from Microsoft of these skills and is recognition of the hard work they do during the year and that what we do is complex and tricky," he said.

For the Alexander Forbes project, the nVisionIT team had to understand the business processes of a very complex industry; get to know the old systems, how they worked and where they were falling short of current needs; and then re-design them for a single integrated environment able to deliver the same business benefits as before plus provide new functionality and open up new business opportunities.

nVisionIT solutions methodology is based on the development of components that address a wide variety of business needs and that can be tailored to specific requirements. These components typically leverage .NET server products or Microsoft productivity tools and can be used as the building blocks of complex, fully integrated business solutions.

Among the Microsoft technologies used in the first phase of the Alexander Forbes project, were .NET, SQL, XML, Web Services, C#, Sharepoint Portal Server.

"They are technologies and solutions that we have used at many of our clients, often enabling us to leverage existing Microsoft technologies to contain costs and provide a relatively painless and incremental move off legacy systems.

"Our award again highlights the advantage of our technology specialisation and focus delivers in terms of value add. It is a model that ensures maximum benefits and returns for our customers," said Van Zijl.
