The SanDisk Extreme Pro 64GB is a dream for aspiring photographers and videographers looking to hone their visual skills and compile a record of their experiences.

Designed for the Canon 70D and other commercial cameras, the card supports capturing high definition (HD) video quality (1920x1080) and 3D video support that may vary depending on host device, file size, resolution and content. It also comes with fast data transfer for post-production workflow efficiency, which similar products on the market cannot brag about.

The SanDisk Extreme Pro SDXC UHS-I Card 64GB card comes in capacities of 16GB, 32GB and 64GB, meaning the amount of space also allows the card to be used for mass storage of Word documents, music files, videos and photographs, using the SanDisk card reader. For vehicles with USB-enabled sound systems, the card reader can be connected and double up as an MP3 player.

Design and build

The SanDisk Extreme Pro card looks virtually identical to other SanDisk cards with its usual gold and red colouring. Also displayed on the front is the SanDisk branding, class information and capacity. The rear side of the card shows the eight gold connector pins. SanDisk has made a very durable card with the tiny, rugged card also shock- and x-ray proof.

Performance

With write speeds of up to 90MB/s and read speeds up to 95MB/s, this card exploits your camera's potential for continuous burst-mode shooting. Engineered with Ultra High Speed (UHS-I) bus architecture, it is designed to exceed rigorous performance standards, enabling users to catch high-resolution action shots the moment they happen. The 64GB capacity also means more room for capturing RAW+JPEG, sequential bursts shots and uninterrupted video files.

It also comes with Error Correction Code engine which offers better data integrity and card reliability during read and write. This memory card also has downloadable RescuePRO data recovery software, good for one year of use. The software helps users restore accidentally-deleted images.

Conclusion

SanDisk Extreme Pro 64GB

Pros: Fast write speeds of up to 90MB/s and read speeds up to 95MB/s
Cons: Small in size, can easily be misplaced, pricey
Price: R2 199.99
Rating: 7/10

Although very small in size, meaning it has to be safely stored as it is easy to misplace (as we found out during the testing process), the SanDisk Pro 64GB UHS-1 SDHC is ideal for individuals who consider themselves to be enthusiasts, professionals and quality oriented.

I especially found the link with the SanDisk Extreme PRO SDHC/SDXC UHS-II Card Reader/Writer extremely useful for in-car MP3 music functionality, as one does not have to spend lots of money on gadgets designed for that sole purpose when you can kill numerous birds with one stone.

The gadget is priced at R2 199.99, which, I am sure, ordinary users will find rather steep. However, perhaps those serious about digital storage may find it a worthy investment.
