Firefox makes official record

Mozilla has officially made history with a new Guinness world record for the largest number of software downloads in a 24-hour period, says BBC.

The final record-breaking 8 002 530 downloads for Firefox 3.0 took place in June with parties in over 25 countries.

Microsoft offers subscription Office

Microsoft plans to introduce a new way to sell its Office software suite, offering customers a subscription model instead of the traditional one-time license fee, says Reuters.

Starting in mid-July, the company will offer US consumers Microsoft Equipt, which comes packaged with the latest version of Office, Windows Live online services and security software.

By getting a subscription service, customers can get the latest updates and newest versions of the software for $69.99 a year.

Internet radio soars

According to the Telegraph.co.za, The number of people who have listened to the radio on the Internet has increased by 2.5 million in only six months, according to industry figures.

Some 14.5 million people have used the Web to listen to the radio at least once, according to Rajar, the industry's ratings body.

That was up from 12 million in November last year.

Hackers crack PlayStation site

Researchers at Sophos have found that hackers have sunk their teeth into the official US PlayStation Web site, says Spong.

Unauthorised code planted on the God of War and SingStar Pop pages falsely tells visitors that their computers have been infected by various kinds of malware in the hope of scaring them into purchasing a bogus security product.
