Gallium (an EOH company) recently announced a strategic partnership with UK-based ChangeBASE AOK, a relationship that will deliver AOK's solutions for automated application compatibility to the local market.
Gallium supplies specialised application services, technology and test factory solutions and services to customers throughout South Africa. ChangeBASE AOK solutions enable businesses to quickly, automatically and cost-effectively assess the impact of changes to their software applications, and thereby make informed decisions with confidence as they evolve their infrastructure and operating environments.
This is of particular significance as companies look to roll out Microsoft Vista, virtualisation projects and ongoing application estate upgrades and changes, says Haydn Pinnell, MD of Gallium. "As application specialists in the field of performance management, quality and security testing, we are excited to have partnered with ChangeBASE AOK and see it as the ideal opportunity to diversify our product offering and break into a new market."
Colin Gray, Sales Director at ChangeBASE AOK, says partnering with Gallium makes perfect sense in South Africa as it strengthens its ability to address the needs of global customers. He explains that as businesses migrate to new operating systems or explore the benefits of virtualisation, they must first assess their application estate and address any potential issues of incompatibility that may impact on productivity. The challenge they face is a lack of consistent metrics and semi-automated processes that provide the right degree of information to make informed decisions, and prioritise effectively.
"ChangeBASE AOK gives partners like Gallium the means to automate many of the elements of the application readiness process, delivering fast assessment, accurate project priorities and, hence, significant migration and ongoing service performance improvements. Typical timesavings over manual compatibility assessment and remediation processes are in the region of 70%, with vastly improved accuracy and consistency. It's now possible to assess a large application portfolio in hours and to make the vast majority ready for deployment in days rather than months, which is typical in traditional, manual project processes."
The move to deliver these types of services is being very well received by big vendors, such as Microsoft. As they deliver increased functionality and performance from their newest platforms, companies with skilled resources, best practice processes and efficient automation technology will reap the rewards, being able to adopt new technologies faster and at a much lower impact to the business, Gray concludes.
